Health Impacts of Vaping

  • NO tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, have been proven safe.
  • Vapes are not just water vapor. They contain chemicals such as Arsenic (poison), those used in lighter fluid, fingernail polish and another used to preserve dead bodies.
  • Many vapes also contain Nicotine, a highly addictive substance. It can be a gateway for children and young adults to experiment with other, more dangerous substances.
  • Short-term side effects of vaping include coughing, shortness of breath, headaches and poor dental health. The long-term effects are unknown, but Volusia County Chief Medical Examiner Dr. James Fulcher says damage to the lungs, such as Lipoid Pneumonia, have been linked to vaping.

Quitting vaping is hard, but it’s possible.

You are not alone. Talk to a trusted adult, medical professional, teacher or mentor.

To learn how to quit, find a resource that works for you. Check out www.thetruth.com or teen.smokefree.gov. You can also call 1-800-QUIT-NOW.
