Young Gun Co-Defendants Sentenced to Lengthy Prison Terms in Senseless Killing of Innocent Victim

Press Release | November 24, 2025

State of Florida v. Isaiah Thomas

State of Florida v. Nassan Bacon

State of Florida v. Terrell Maddox

Thomas Case Number: 2022 101156 CFDL

Bacon Case Number: 2022 303060 CFDB

Maddox Case Number: 2022 303061 CFDB

During the late-night hours of May 21, 2022, Isaiah Thomas (now 24), Nassan Bacon (now 25), Terrell Maddox (now 23), John Torres (now 26) and Estella Luna (now 27) failed to steal an occupied vehicle. About an hour later, they attempted to steal another occupied vehicle parked outside of Florida Technical College in DeLand. While the driver fought off one of the co-defendants, another shot him through the windshield in front of his girlfriend. Unfortunately, the victim died from his injuries at the hospital 12 days later.
Three of the co-defendants were sentenced in this case on Friday. Thomas entered a plea of no-contest to Second-Degree Murder (Firearm) and received life in prison. Maddox also entered a plea of no-contest to Second-Degree Murder (Firearm) and received 50 years in prison. Bacon pleaded to Principal to Second-Degree Murder (Firearm) and received 30 years in prison. All three also received 30 years for Carjacking, which is to run concurrently.
The other two co-defendants, Torres and Luna were sentenced earlier in the week for their respective roles in the crimes. Torres was sentenced to 18 years in prison followed by 12 years of probation. Luna received 180 days in jail followed by 15 years of supervision.
“Today marked the end of the road for five co-defendants involved in a series of crimes, which left one victim dead and another traumatized for life.” State Attorney RJ Larizza said after the hearing. “We do not suffer violent crime in the 7th Circuit.  No quarter shall be given”
The case was investigated by the DeLand Police Department and Daytona Beach Police Department. Assistant State Attorney Helen Schwartz successfully prosecuted the case for the State of Florida. The Honorable Elizabeth Blackburn presided over the case and pronounced sentence.
