Young Guns Defendant Convicted of Aggravated Battery

DAYTONA BEACH โ€“ After a three-day trial, a Volusia County jury found defendant Odean Jack guilty as charged of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm.

On February 2, 2024, the defendant shot a man in the chest in the parking lot of a Daytona Beach apartment complex.

Jack, a Jamaican national and undocumented immigrant, was caught on surveillance footage running away from the scene. He was positively identified by a witness and arrested the following month.

The victim had to undergo emergency surgery but recovered from his injuries at the hospital.

โ€œTo those who think illegals donโ€™t pose a threat to our communities – think again,โ€ State Attorney R.J. Larizza said about the case. โ€œThe defendant discharged his firearm in a residential neighborhood in broad daylight. His malicious actions deserve the maximum penalty.โ€

The case was investigated by the Daytona Beach Police Department. Assistant State Attorneys Ashley McCarthy and Boone Forkner successfully tried the case for the state. The Honorable Leah Case presided over the case and will pronounce sentence at a later date. Jack faces a mandatory minimum of 25 years up to life in prison for the crime.
