Fox Convicted in Holly Hill Apartment Shooting that Killed a Grandmother

DAYTONA BEACH – After a three-day trial, a Volusia County jury found defendant Jason Fox guilty as charged of First-Degree Murder, Attempted First-Degree Murder and Shooting into a Dwelling.

In the early morning hours of August 2, 2021, Fox forced a man to drive him in a borrowed vehicle to a Holly Hill apartment complex. He then pulled out a rifle and fired into an apartment unit multiple times before having the driver take off.

A 19-year-old woman and her grandmother were both shot while they were inside sleeping. The young victim recovered from her injuries at the hospital. However, the older victim died from a blood clot caused by her gunshot wound almost three weeks later.

Holly Hill Detectives spent almost two years gathering evidence in this case, which included multiple texts on Fox’s phone referencing revenge and bragging about the shooting. There was also a saved photo of a news story about the shooting.

In June 2023, they concluded the investigation and arrested the defendant.

“Got another violent sociopath off the streets,” State Attorney R.J. Larizza said about the case.

The case was investigated by the Holly Hill Police Department with assistance from State Attorney Investigators. Assistant State Attorneys Andrew Urbanak and Boone Forkner successfully tried the case for the state. The Honorable Leah Case presided over the case and will pronounce sentence at a later date. Fox will be sentenced to mandatory life in prison for the First-Degree Murder conviction.
