Petry Sentenced to Prison for West Volusia Head-On Collison that Killed Three

DELAND – During a hearing this afternoon, defendant Thomas Petry was sentenced to 37 years in prison. He pled guilty in September to three counts of Vehicular Homicide, three counts of Leaving the Scene of Crash with Death, Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Serious Bodily Injury and Reckless Driving – Serious Bodily Injury.

In the early morning hours of December 11, 2022, Petry was driving a Toyota Tacoma into oncoming traffic on State Road 44 near Jesse Michael Drive when he crashed into an Infiniti Q50, which was being driven by Devin Perkins. The three passengers in the car with Perkins died at the scene. Perkins and the passenger in the Tacoma sustained serious injuries. Petry walked away from the scene.

After Florida Highway Patrol concluded its traffic homicide investigation, Petry was found and arrested.

The case was investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol. Assistant State Attorneys Mike Willard and Daniel Megaro successfully prosecuted the case for the state. The Honorable Dawn Nichols presided over the case and pronounced sentence.
