Press Release | October 15, 2026

DOB: 12/04/1981

Case Number: 2026 100995 CFDB

Long Sentenced in Daytona Beach Box Cutter Attack

DAYTONA BEACH โ€“ During a hearing on Thursday, Volusia County defendant Jermaine Long entered no contest pleas to Aggravated Battery and Attempted Second-Degree Murder, along with six additional charges in three other cases. He was then sentenced to a total of 45 years in prison, including 30 years as a Prison Releasee Reoffender.

On Feb. 14, 2026, a 13-year-old boy was slashed across the neck with a box cutter near the Daytona Beach Boardwalk.

The victim was taken to the hospital, where he received 13 stitches.

Surveillance footage captured Long circling behind the victim before attacking him and running away.

Officers located the defendant nearby shortly after and took him into custody. Two edged weapons, a box cutter and a knife, were found on him.

โ€œAn extremely dangerous individual is now off the streets for 45 years,โ€ State Attorney R.J. Larizza said about the case. โ€œHopefully, he will not survive his incarceration.โ€

The case was investigated by the Daytona Beach Police Department. Assistant State Attorney Ashley Terwilleger successfully prosecuted the case for the State of Florida. The Honorable Christian Miller heard the case and imposed sentence.
