Volusia County Defendant Convicted in Attempted Bank Robbery
DAYTONA BEACH – After a two-day trial, a Volusia County jury found defendant Henry Collier guilty as charged of Aggravated Assault with Intent to Commit a Felony, Attempted Robbery with a Firearm Wearing a Mask and Written Threats to Kill or Do Bodily Injury. Immediately following the verdict, the defendant was sentenced to life in prison as a Prison Releasee Reoffender, Violent Career Criminal, Habitual Felony Offender, Habitual Violent Felony Offender and three-time Violent Felony Offender.
On March 11, 2024, Collier went into a bank off of Ridgewood Avenue in Edgewater wearing a long wig and a face mask. He was also carrying a bag with a handgun.
When Collier approached the counter, he placed a note in front of a teller that said “no dye packs” and “I will kill you”. When another teller approached him, Collier began to pull out the gun and verbally threatened to kill them. However, when one teller told him that she would call the police, Collier ran out of the bank.
A Crimestoppers tip came in and helped Edgewater Police detectives solve the case. They were able to identify the vehicle that Collier was driving and tracked it to Southeast Georgia using license plate readers. Glynn County Police and Georgia State Police were then able to detain him.
“The defendant is the poster child for serial career criminal,” State Attorney R.J. Larizza said about the case. “You would be hard-pressed to find another individual with the montage of criminal designations amassed by our defendant. Now, he has the additional designation as a lifer.”
The case was investigated by the Edgewater Police Department. Assistant State Attorneys Ashley Terwilleger and John Reid successfully tried the case for the state. The Honorable Christian Miller presided over the case and pronounced sentence.
