Mumby Convicted in High-Speed Crash that Killed Boyfriend
BUNNELL โ After a two-day trial, a Flagler County jury found defendant Leigha Mumby guilty as charged of Vehicular Homicide and Reckless Driving with Serious Bodily Injury.
On Feb. 9, 2025, Mumby was arguing with her boyfriend, Daniel Waterman, while driving recklessly on Interstate 95 at over 100 mph.
The defendant was driving 94 mph when she suddenly turned the steering wheel to the left, causing the vehicle to veer off the highway and crash into several trees.
Waterman suffered a broken neck and was paralyzed from the neck down. He later died of pneumonia on Oct. 8, 2025.
โThis demonstrates our commitment to taking on complicated cases involving technical subject matter,โ State Attorney R.J. Larizza said. โAccountability breeds justice – and this case exemplifies our mission to make justice a reality for our victims, our families and our communities.โ
