State of Florida v. Regena Fields Daniels

Press Release | October 9, 2026

DOB: 07/12/2023

Case Number: 2023 0809 CF

Putnam County Defendant Sentenced to Prison in Ex-Boyfriendโ€™s Shooting Death

PALATKA โ€“ During a hearing on Friday, Putnam County defendant Regena Daniels was sentenced to 15 years in prison. In August, she entered a no contest plea to Manslaughter with a Weapon.

On Aug. 21, 2023, Palatka police officers responded to a home on E. Oak Hill Drive after receiving reports of gunshots.

Detectives learned that a verbal argument had escalated into a physical fight in the backyard involving Daniels, her daughter and another woman who had been brought to the home by Danielsโ€™ ex-boyfriend.

Danielsโ€™ ex-boyfriend was in the backyard but was not involved in the fight. He pulled Daniels away from the other women, and she went inside the home and grabbed a gun before returning outside.

Daniels fired two shots at her ex-boyfriend but missed. He then moved around the back of the home in an attempt to get away. Daniels went around the front of the home, cutting off his path, and fired a third shot, which struck him.

The victim died from his injuries at the hospital. Daniels admitted to detectives that she shot her ex-boyfriend and was arrested.

The Palatka Police Department investigated the case. Assistant State Attorney Alexander Gilewicz and Managing Assistant State Attorney Mark Lewis successfully prosecuted the case for the State of Florida. The Honorable Alicia Washington heard the case and imposed sentence.
