Prather Sentenced to Life in Prison for Cycle of Child Sexual Abuse

DELAND โ€“ During a hearing on Wednesday, Volusia County defendant Trent Prather entered guilty pleas to 15 counts of Sexual Battery on victim less than 12 years of age, two counts of Lewd/Lascivious Molestation on victim less than 12 years of age, Lewd/Lascivious Exhibition on victim less than 16 years of age and 18 counts of Promoting Sexual Performance by a Child. Prather was then sentenced to life in prison for the convictions.

Between May 2025 and March 2026, the defendant recorded himself sexually abusing a nine-year-old victim.

โ€œThere are few things in this world that are worse than repeatedly raping a small child,โ€ State Attorney R.J. Larizza said about the case. โ€œEspecially when the pedophile videos the rapes for future viewing and trade. It defies explanation.โ€

The case was investigated by the Volusia Sheriffโ€™s Office. Assistant State Attorney Nicholas Kramperth prosecuted the case for the State of Florida. The Honorable Karen Foxman heard the case and imposed sentence.
