Parker Sentenced to Prison in Post-Hurricane Contracting Scams

DAYTONA BEACH โ€“ During a full-day hearing this week, defendant Steven Parker was sentenced to eight years in prison followed by 22 years of probation. So far, he has been ordered to pay $55,706.25 in restitution to the victims.

Parker pleaded no contest in March to 12 felony counts in seven cases, which included Organized Scheme to Defraud more than $50,000, False Representation as a License/Certified Holder, Fraudulent Use of Personal Identification Information and Engage in Contracting without Certification during Emergency.

The defendant posed as a licensed contractor on a Volusia County Facebook page and took more than $100,000 from seven victims who hired him to complete house repairs following Hurricane Ian. Parker either did poor-quality work or didnโ€™t finish the job at all.

โ€œThe defendant used a hurricane disaster to rip off folks who trusted him with their homes and hard-earned dollars,โ€ State Attorney R.J. Larizza said about the cases. โ€œHis greed caught up with him, and he received a significant prison sentence followed by a lengthy term of probation.ย He was ordered to pay restitution to the victims, and it is my sincere hope that they receive every penny taken from them.โ€

The cases were investigated by the Port Orange Police Department with assistance from State Attorneyโ€™s Office Investigators. Assistant State Attorney Kevin Sullivan successfully prosecuted the cases for the state. The Honorable Kathryn Weston presided over the cases and pronounced sentence.
