Volusia County Defendant Convicted of Armed Robbery
DAYTONA BEACH – After a two-day trial, a Volusia County jury found defendant Dosia Stewart guilty as charged of Aggravated Battery (Firearm). Following the verdict, he also pleaded to Possession of Firearm by Violent Career Criminal.
On February 10, 2024, the victim was lured outside of a Daytona Beach home and ambushed by the defendant. Stewart pulled out a handgun and demanded he get on the ground. When the victim refused and tried to fight back, Stewart shot him multiple times before driving away from the scene.
The victim went to the hospital with three gunshot wounds in the arm, hip and thigh. His leg was amputated and he has permanent injuries to his arm. The defendant was later identified by the victim and arrested.
“The defendant is a violent career criminal who should receive a life sentence for his crimes,” State Attorney R.J. Larizza said about the case. “We will be asking the judge to sentence him accordingly.”
The case was investigated by the Daytona Beach Police Department. Assistant State Attorneys Ashley Terwilleger and Paiton Mizelle successfully tried the case for the state. The Honorable Karen Foxman presided over the case and is set to pronounce sentence on February 26, 2025. The defendant qualifies for the prison releasee reoffender and habitual felony offender enhancements and faces up to life in prison for the crimes.
