Five Volusia County Defendants Indicted on First-Degree Murder

Five Volusia County Defendants Indicted on First-Degree Murder

DELAND – The Volusia County Grand Jury heard five new cases this week.

The first case was that of John Craiger. The defendant is accused of shooting the owner of a jewelry store on West International Speedway Blvd. in Daytona Beach on July 19, 2024. The victim’s son then shot back at him in defense and Craiger returned fire. The victim died from his injuries at the hospital.

The second case was that of Danitto Simpson. The Young Guns defendant is accused of shooting and killing a man following a verbal argument outside of a Daytona Beach apartment complex on September 10, 2023.

The third case was that of Tymone Walker. The defendant is accused of selling fentanyl to a man in July 2023, which he took and later died of an overdose.

The fourth case was that of Charles Troutman. The defendant is accused of selling fentanyl to a man in December 2023, which he took and later died of an overdose.

The fifth case was that of Dexter Tolbert. The defendant is accused of selling fentanyl to a woman in February 2024, which she took and later died of an overdose.

The indictments were handed down on Tuesday afternoon. Craiger was charged with First-Degree Murder and Attempted First-Degree Murder. Simpson was charged with First-Degree Murder (Firearm). Walker, Troutman and Tolbert were all charged with First-Degree Murder by Unlawful Distribution of Controlled Substance.

The cases against Craiger and Simpson were investigated by the Daytona Beach Police Department. The cases against Walker, Troutman and Tolbert were investigated by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.
