Volusia County Defendant Convicted of Second-Degree Murder, DUI Manslaughter

DAYTONA BEACH – After a three-day trial this afternoon, a Volusia County jury found defendant Anthony Adum guilty of Second-Degree Murder, Leaving the Scene of Crash with Death, DUI Manslaughter and Vehicular Homicide.

On the evening of March 21, 2021, Adum was driving his vehicle recklessly around Daytona Beach while under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The defendant then deliberately struck a man sitting on the sidewalk near the intersection of International Speedway Boulevard and Nova Road.

Video surveillance showed the defendant drive in circles around ISB two times. He then accelerated in the direction of the victim and jumped out of the vehicle before it made impact.

Adum tried to run away from the scene, but was stopped by an unmarked police vehicle. The victim later died from his injuries at the hospital.

The case was investigated by the Daytona Beach Police Department. Assistant State Attorney Mark Interlicchio successfully tried the case for the state. The Honorable Leah Case presided over the case and will pronounce sentence at a later date.
